چکیده

For the efficient operation of a cavity ringdown spectroscopy (CRDS) system utilized with a continuous-wave (cw) laser, we numerically analyze the coupling efficiency of a cw laser to a ringdown cavity in terms of changes in the scanning rate, the laser linewidth, and the mirror reflectivity. We also demonstrate a new simple design for a CRDS system that can produce a CRDS signal with only a piezoelectric transducer (PZT), without the acousto-optic modulator that is usually adopted to switch off the cw laser beam that enters the cavity. Furthermore, we investigate the feasibility of the cw CRDS technique with a fast-scanning PZT by recording a CRDS spectrum of acetylene overtones. The detection sensitivity that corresponds to the noise-equivalent absorption is found to be approximately 3 x 10(-9)/cm.

Cavity-enhanced laser spectroscopic studies of vibrational overtones of acetylene

This thesis contains five experimental spectroscopic studies that probe the vibration–rotation energy level structure of acetylene and some of its isotopologues. The emphasis is on the development of laser spectroscopic methods for high-resolution molecular spectroscopy. Three of the experiments use cavity ringdown spectroscopy. One is a standard setup that employs a non-frequency stabilised co...

Optical injection unlocking for cavity ringdown spectroscopy.

Continuous wave cavity ringdown spectroscopy requires a rapid termination of the injection of light into the cavity to initiate the decay (i.e., ringdown) event. We demonstrate a technique that accomplishes this through pulsed optical injection of a second laser into the main laser, resulting in 20-100 MHz frequency shifts in the otherwise cavity-locked main laser sufficient to create ringdown ...

A quantum cascade laser cw cavity ringdown spectrometer coupled to a supersonic expansion source.

A new instrument has been constructed that couples a supersonic expansion source to a continuous wave cavity ringdown spectrometer using a Fabry-Perot quantum cascade laser (QCL). The purpose of the instrument is to enable the acquisition of a cold, rotationally resolved gas phase spectrum of buckminsterfullerene (C(60)). As a first test of the system, high resolution spectra of the nu(8) vibra...

High resolution pulsed infrared cavity ringdown spectroscopy: Application to laser ablated carbon clusters

We report the design and performance of a tunable, pulsed high resolution mid infrared cavity ringdown spectrometer. Stimulated Raman scattering in H2 /D2 is used to downconvert the output of a SLM Alexandrite ring laser ~720–800 nm! to the mid infrared ~3–8 mm!. The infrared frequency bandwidth was determined to be 9065 MHz from measurements of Doppler broadened OCS transitions at 5 mm. The mi...
